In a thrilling culmination of anticipation and excitement, Tarneit witnessed a historic moment this past weekend as the Regional Football Facility played host to its inaugural A-League match.

While the result on the pitch may not have been what supporters hoped for, the atmosphere and community spirit that filled the air were nothing short of electric!

Western United’s Liberty A-League Women faced a tough battle against the Newcastle Jets, ultimately conceding a 3-1 defeat. Yet, the real victory lay in the hearts of the over 2,000 passionate fans who flocked to our new home, marking its official opening in grand style.

Kids met players, ran amuck on football inflatables and supported their female football heroes. All fans in attendance left with memories, posters, stickers, exclusive merchandise and no doubt an appetite to come back for the next game!

As only the second rectangular stadium in Victoria capable of hosting both A-League Women and Men matches, the facility has quickly become a beacon of hope and opportunity for the west. With the impending NPL home fixtures and the highly-anticipated Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s home match slated for early April, the stage is set for Western United to carve out a new chapter in Tarneit’s football legacy.

In other exciting news, a name for the facility is one step closer to being locked! On Tuesday night, Wyndham Council voted in favour of ‘Ironbark Field’, a name which was chosen by more than 800 respondents to a public poll conducted earlier this year.

A final decision on the name will be made at a council meeting in April, following a 30 day public notice period.

In the words of Western United co-captain Chloe Logarzo, this isn’t just about football—it’s about forging connections, inspiring dreams, and uniting a community. As we look ahead to a future filled with promise and potential, let us rally behind our team, our facility, and our shared love for the beautiful game.

The Regional Football Facility isn’t just a venue—it’s a testament to the unwavering spirit of Tarneit and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead. So, here’s to many more moments of triumph, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories at our beloved home ground. Go Western United!
