What’s in the 2024-2025 State Budget for Tarneit?

The 2024-2025 Victorian State Budget has been unveiled, bringing some exciting developments and substantial investments to the Tarneit area. Carry on reading to find out what’s in store across education, public transport, community amenities, and emergency services.

Schools and education

This year’s budget will see $1 billion invested to build 16 new schools which are expected to open in 2026, including Tarneit Plains Primary School (interim name), which is located about 10 minutes from Harlow and currently in the design phase.

State school students will receive some relief, with the introduction of a new School Saving Bonus. It’s part of a $287 million package where every child at a government school will receive a one-off payment of $400 each in the form of a credit.

The money can go towards uniform expenses, camps, school excursions and sporting events. The School Saving Bonus is expected to roll out in term four, ahead of the 2025 school year.

The government is also investing in free eyesight tests for kids, tripling its Glasses for Kids program.

Public transport

A total of $17.5 million has also been allocated to be spent on the new Tarneit West railway station! Pre-construction site investigations are currently underway for the station, located near the corner of Davis & Leakes Rd, with further updates regarding consultation periods still to come. Once complete, the new station will include a pedestrian crossing, a 4 bay bus interchange and parking for up to 400 commuters.

The budget also included $5 million to be spent on the Western Rail Plan in 2024-25. This is the remaining money of the $21 million allocated for detailed planning and development activities.

Community

Werribee Open Range Zoo received $6 million for continued improvements as well as sharing in $11.9 million in investment to give free entry for children under 16 on weekends, school holidays, and public holidays. Fantastic news for parents with little animal lovers!

Emergency services

Finally, $1.8 million has been put towards building a Victorian State Emergency service facility in Tarneit, while progress is also continuing on the Drainage Reserve off leash dog park in Hoppers Crossing, with construction works expected to begin early next year.

These significant investments will help to support and enhance the Tarneit community, providing a more vibrant and connected place to live for all current and future residents as these projects come to fruition.
