What’s On: September School Holidays in Melbourne’s West

From safaris to seaside walks, there are plenty of free and affordable adventures happening in Werribee and Melbourne’s West between 20 September – 5 October 2025.

Here’s your guide to making the most of the spring sunshine while keeping the kids busy these holidays.

Explore Youth Adventures

For teens aged 12–17, Wyndham Youth Services are hosting activities like MCG Museum Tours, or for something more action-packed, try Strike Bowling and Laser Tag in Point Cook. Guaranteed to burn off some holiday energy!

Get Creative at the Library

Your local library is the place for imagination and play these holidays. Kids can step into storytime with Australian Ballet’s Dance Story Workshops or let their creativity run wild at free Drop-in Craft sessions.

Enjoy Family Fun at Fam Bam LIVE

The Wyndham Cultural Centre is hosting Fam Bam LIVE, a family-friendly festival with interactive theatre shows, hands-on art workshops, and more. While you’re there, check out the Wyndham Art Gallery with the inspiring exhibition Josh Muir: Forever I Live, which celebrates Indigenous storytelling and urban street art.

Go Wild on Safari

Head to Werribee Open Range Zoo for a safari adventure with rhinos, zebras, giraffes, and elephants. During the spring school holidays, entry is free for kids under 16, making this a budget-friendly day out. Look out for special performances and wildlife activations throughout the break.

Take Off at the RAAF Museum

Discover planes, helicopters and interactive displays at the RAAF Museum in Point Cook. Entry is free, with online bookings required. Don’t miss the Roulettes aerobatic team display on Thursday 25 September, a rare chance to see the Royal Australian Air Force in action.

Tee Off with Golf & Bowling

Challenge the family to a round of bowling, laser tag or mini golf at Strike Bowling and Holey Moley, all under one roof. Or head outdoors to The Elements Coastal Activity Park, where the newly refreshed mini golf course has been designed with help from the local community.

Meet the Dinosaurs

Younger kids will love the roaring fun of DinoFest, a life-sized dinosaur experience at Werribee Park Mansion; or opt for the Little Explorers Package at Lancemore Mansion Hotel for curiosity-led holiday fun.

Discover Local Playgrounds

From the crocodile-shaped playground in Point Cook to Wyndham Park, Dinosaur Park, and the animal-themed Safari Park in Werribee, there are endless free adventures waiting. Add an ice cream or café stop and you’ve got a whole day out.

Ride Into Adventure

Pack the helmets and enjoy Werribee’s family-friendly bike paths, including scenic rides at Werribee South Foreshore or through Wyndham Park.

Stroll by the Foreshore

Finally, take a seaside walk along Werribee South Foreshore. With playgrounds at JD Bellin Reserve and Price Reserve, plus fish and chips or ice cream at Wyndham Harbour, it’s an easy and affordable day out by the water.
